A chemical peel is a type of skin treatment in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin on the face which causes the top layer of your skin to peel off. The remaining layers are usually more hydrated, smoother, and less wrinkled. The result is typically a more vibrant and youthful appearance that can be fairly long lasting.
Tips for After Getting A Chemical Peel
Wear Sunscreen - After getting a chemical peel, your skin will be temporarily more sensitive to the sun. Make sure you wear sunscreen every day. Additionally, make sure you use broad spectrum sunscreen. Broad spectrum means that the sunscreen will protect your skin from both the sun’s UVA and UVB radiation. Finally, try to use a sunscreen of at least an SPF 30 rating.
Limit Time in the Sun - Try to limit the daily time you spend in the sun to just a couple hours in the few days immediately following the treatment. Especially try to limit exposure during times when the sun’s rays are the strongest; between the hours of 11am and 2pm.
Skin Cleaning - The first step in any chemical peel is to clean your skin.
Apply Peeling Agent - These are typically glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, or carbolic acid. During the peel many people will experience a slight burning sensation for a few minutes followed by a slight stinging sensation for another few minutes.
